measuring histories

 GENERATIONAL AUDIO

this project challenged the artist to discover new forms that interrogate and reveal personal histories within himself.

i decided to take a deep dive into the voices of my extended family.

i asked them to all send me an audio file of them singing the note "G" until they couldn't anymore. doing this allowed a lot of variability – a very long note from my younger cousin due to his lung capacity, a high note from my sister, and a shaky flat note from my grandpa with parkinsons.

after receiving their voices, i threw them into Logic Pro X (a DAW – digital audio workstation), and sampled their voices, layering them on top of each other, and turning it into a song.

i learned a lot about the different frequencies that their voices made, as was able to dive pretty deep within Logic Pro's sampling abilities. i was able to turn a simple voice note into a piano, a snare drum, a kick, bass, and other instruments; making a full song.
